June 19, 2025, marked a truly special occasion for the Make It Worthy community, as more than 35 students and their families gathered to celebrate the end of the school year in an unforgettable evening of joy, unity, and gratitude, all made possible by the generous hearts of Steve and Julie Chittenden.
The Chittenden’s opened their home with warmth and enthusiasm, welcoming children, parents, and mentors from Make It Worthy, an after-school tutoring and mentorship organization devoted to empowering youth through education, guidance, and community connection. This event wasn’t just a party, it was a heartfelt reflection of what Steve and Julie have made their lives about: helping others and uplifting their community.

From the moment the guests arrived, it was clear this was going to be a celebration to remember. Laughter rang through the air as kids played basketball, soccer, volleyball, and even took part in an energetic race. A special playground setup brought joy to the younger attendees, all thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers from Steve’s church, who came together to create a beautiful and welcoming atmosphere.

One of the highlights of the evening was the delicious BBQ, masterfully prepared by Steve himself. As the grill sizzled, the aroma of freshly cooked food filled the backyard, and smiles stretched across the faces of everyone present. The Chittenden’s ensured that every child and adult felt cared for, seen, and celebrated.

“This is what it’s all about, bringing people together, lifting each other up, and celebrating our youth,” said Steve, who clearly poured his heart into making the night special.
Abdoulie Jarju, Founder and Executive Director of Make It Worthy, expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“We are incredibly thankful to Steve and his wife Julie for their generosity. They didn’t just host a party, and they created a space where kids could feel loved, encouraged, and celebrated. It was a powerful reminder of how much good one family can do.”
Co-founder Joelta Seneh echoed the sentiment: “It’s people like Steve and Julie who show us what community is truly about. Their support means everything to us, and we are beyond grateful.”

The impact of the evening doesn’t stop there. Steve is taking his commitment even further by joining Make It Worthy’s summer reading group. Not only will he be mentoring students in their literacy journey, but he has personally purchased books for the entire group, a gesture that speaks volumes about his dedication to making a lasting difference.
To everyone who participated, volunteered, played, laughed, and shared a meal together, thank you. And to Steve and Julie Chittenden, your kindness and generosity have planted seeds of joy that will grow for years to come.
Together, we are building a community that uplifts, inspires, and empowers. And with leaders like Steve and Julie by our side, the future looks bright.
