Make It Worthy is proud to celebrate Yasin King as our Student of the Month! Yasin, a bright and energetic 4th grader, joined our program in October and has already demonstrated remarkable growth and determination. Her journey reflects the heart of what Make It Worthy stands for—empowering students to overcome challenges and believe in their potential.

Yasin's mother, Isatou, shared that Yasin and her two brothers previously attended a different after-school program, but they would cry every time it was time to go, so she eventually stopped taking them. When the opportunity came to attend Make It Worthy, the kids were hesitant and didn’t want to go at first. To encourage them, she promised there would be snacks every night, and they agreed to give it a try. Now, Isatou says her kids remind her every evening to drop them off because they absolutely love being at the center.

Executive Director Abdoulie Jarju added that with additional funding, Make It Worthy plans to provide snacks every night, ensuring students feel welcomed and supported as they continue to thrive

Like many students who come through our doors, Yasin initially needed extra support with her education. Math, in particular, felt overwhelming to her. When she started at Make It Worthy, Yasin struggled to remember her 2 multiplication factors. Fast forward three months later, and Yasin is now confidently mastering her multiplication table (she is currently on her 8's). She has also made impressive strides in solving division problems and tackling word problems, proving that hard work and the right support can turn any challenge into an opportunity for growth.

The progress doesn’t stop there. Yasin’s reading skills have improved tremendously, thanks to the dedication of our tutors and staff, particularly Joelta Seneh, Make It Worthy’s co-founder. With limited resources, our team has provided Yasin with personalized, one-on-one tutoring sessions, ensuring that she receives the focused attention she needs to succeed.

Yasin’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. Her parents are incredibly proud of what Yasin has accomplished in such a short time. Her father has been especially supportive, maintaining constant communication with our team and reinforcing the importance of education at home. Having parents who value education and stay involved in their child’s progress has been instrumental in Yasin’s success.

When asked why she likes coming to the program, Yasin said, "I like it here because everyone helps me, and the teachers make learning fun. I feel like I learn more here than at school!"

To honor Yasin’s hard work and commitment, Make It Worthy is awarding her a $25 gift card to Half Price Books. This reward not only celebrates her progress but also encourages her continued passion for learning. Executive Director Abdoulie Jarju emphasized that this recognition represents Make It Worthy’s mission: providing students with the resources, confidence, and belief in themselves to achieve academic success. “I want to see many more children like Yasin, who once doubted their ability to master a lesson, transform into straight-A students,” said Jarju.

Co-founder Joelta Seneh echoed these sentiments, adding, “This is what Make It Worthy is all about—helping students succeed and giving them the tools they need to thrive. Seeing Yasin’s progress fills me with pride and joy.”

Yasin King’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that personalized support and encouragement can have on a student’s life. At Make It Worthy, we believe that every child deserves the chance to succeed, and Yasin’s achievements inspire us to keep making that vision a reality. Congratulations, Yasin—keep shining!
