On August 28, 2024, Make It Worthy held its first annual Back-To-School Giveaway event, marking a significant milestone for the organization and the community it serves. Held at the Make It Worthy center in Everett, WA, the event provided over 65 students with backpacks, books, pencils, and other essential school materials, ensuring they were well-prepared for the upcoming academic year.
"This is Make It Worthy's first annual school supplies giveaway," said Founder and Executive Director of Make It Worthy, Abdoulie Jarju, "Equity is lacking in our schools, and that is one of the main reasons why I founded Make It Worthy. We are here to help students who are at a disadvantage and to provide them with better opportunities throughout their academic journeys."
Co-Founder and Development Director, Joelta Seneh emphasized the importance of community involvement and expressed her desire to see even more students and families participating in future events. "I want to see more students involved in the future, and I hope our community will continue to support this initiative," she added.
The giveaway event was a delightful and exciting occasion, bringing together students and their families to receive school supplies and to learn more about Make It Worthy's mission. The atmosphere was further brightened by a generous donation from Papa John's, who provided 25 pizza boxes to feed all the attendees. Jarju expressed deep appreciation, stating, "We are incredibly thankful to Shauna Marie, the area supervisor for Papa John’s in Snohomish County, for her support and for ensuring all individuals enjoyed a delicious meal."
The event not only involved the distribution of school supplies but also provided Make It Worthy with a chance to interact with the community and disseminate information about its programs and services. Numerous families departed from the center with joyful smiles and heartfelt appreciation, having acquired not just supplies but also a stronger bond with the organization's mission.
Joelta Seneh expressed enthusiasm about the turnout, stating, "We are delighted with the turnout and the enthusiastic response from the community. Families have continued to visit our office to collect school supplies even after the event, underscoring the demand within our community and strengthening our dedication to aiding every student in their educational pursuits."
Make It Worthy extends its heartfelt thanks to Board Member Karla Danson, Lizzy Kiley, a third-grade tutor at our center, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who participated in making the Back-To-School Giveaway a success. The organization looks forward to hosting more events like this and invites anyone interested in partnership and sponsorship opportunities to visit its website.
