Snohomish County, WA – October 21, 2025. Make It Worthy Learning Center was alive with authentic laughter, genuine curiosity, and heartfelt inspiration on Tuesday evening as Ms. Shanta Freeman-Miller, Education Chairwoman for the NAACP Snohomish County Chapter, visited to celebrate the power of education and community.

Her visit marked an unforgettable evening for Make It Worthy’s students. Just a year ago, many of these students struggled with reading, but on this night, they proudly read aloud from a book about Evergreen Trees. Each student’s voice, sometimes hesitant but always determined, filled the room with a sense of real achievement. Their progress and joy were evident, touching everyone who listened.

“Seeing how far our students have come in just one year is incredible,” said Mr. Abdoulie Jarju, Founder and Executive Director of Make It Worthy. “Ms. Shanta’s visit was so encouraging and reminded us why we do this work to empower children to reach their full potential.”

A History Lesson That Connected Generations

After the reading session, Ms. Freeman-

Miller captivated students and staff with an engaging lesson on the NAACP’s legacy and the Civil Rights Movement, highlighting how these historic struggles paved the way for equality in education.

She discussed the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case, helping young learners grasp the importance of fairness, justice, and perseverance. Her message connected history to the students’ daily lives, reminding them that education is not only a right, but a responsibility.

Students listened eagerly as Ms. Freeman-Miller shared real-life examples of courage and leadership, encouraging them to dream big and stay curious.

“She reminded our students that their curiosity and excitement to learn are powerful tools for success,” said Ms. Joelta Seneh, Co-Founder and Development Director of Make It Worthy. “We all learned something new from her. Our students need to hear from community leaders like Ms. Shanta, people who show them that they, too, can achieve greatness through education.”

Learning, Laughing, and Giving Back

To end her visit, Ms. Freeman-Miller hosted a fun and interactive Q&A session, inviting students to ask questions about history, leadership, and learning. Students who participated were rewarded with candy, filling the room with laughter and excitement.

But Ms. Freeman-Miller’s kindness didn’t stop there. Just days later, she returned to Make It Worthy with generous donations, including books, posters, crayons, pencils, a coffee maker, and many other supplies to support students and teachers.

“Ms. Shanta’s dedication and kindness are shining examples of how community involvement can make a real difference,” said Mr. Jarju. “Her visit left a lasting impact on our students and our program.”

Empowering the Next Generation

At the heart of Make It Worthy’s mission is a simple but powerful goal to empower K–12 students through reading, writing, math, and mentorship, helping them build confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and discover a lifelong love of learning.

“We welcome anyone who believes in helping the next generation of leaders succeed,” added Mr. Jarju.

Ms. Freeman-Miller’s visit was more than an educational event. It was a celebration of progress, hope, and the power of community. Her presence reminded everyone at Make It Worthy that when young people are encouraged, educated, and empowered, they can achieve anything.

“Our students need to see examples like Ms. Shanta,” said Ms. Seneh. “Her story shows them that success comes from hard work, faith, and a commitment to learning. She truly made it worthy.”
