Since obtaining 501(c)(3) status in Washington State, Make It Worthy has officially launched its operations in King and Snohomish Counties. We extend our gratitude to all who joined us at the launch party in Shoreline, Washington on May 11th, 2024.
Founder and Executive Director Abdoulie Jarju expressed his profound joy on this momentous occasion, emphasizing the significance of initiating Make It Worthy in the State of Washington. He called upon community members to unite with Make It Worthy in addressing our children's educational needs, emphasizing that there is no better place to establish a non-profit than in Washington.Â
Co-Founder and Development Director Joelta Seneh articulated her desire for parents to actively engage with the services provided, stressing the importance of their involvement in their children's education. She firmly believes that Make It Worthy will positively impact the lives of countless children in Washington and expressed her gratitude for being a part of this impactful movement.Â
Our Community Engagement Officer, Ebrima Dibba, deserves special recognition for his unwavering dedication and diligent efforts in organizing the successful launch event. Despite managing his professional responsibilities and the task of uniting the Gambian community in Seattle, Ebrima played a pivotal role in ensuring the event's remarkable success and impressive turnout.
Renowned Human Rights Defender, Lawyer, Educator, Gender Equity Champion, Law Professor, and Director, Musu Bakoto Sawo, was among the esteemed guest speakers. Musu Bakoto underscored the significance of education, attributing her current position to her educational journey. She expressed her optimism regarding the potential success of Make It Worthy and its capacity to positively impact numerous community members.
The Gambian Grandma Association of Seattle, under the leadership of President Auntie Awa Mboge, Vice President Auntie Suntu Camara, PRO Auntie Norgoi Bah, and Auntie Fatou Ndow, mobilized the organization's members for an event, and their turnout was impressive. Their unwavering support from start to finish was truly commendable. We are grateful to the Gambian Grandma Association of Seattle for their invaluable contributions to the well-being of our community's youth and residents.
The team from Hope Unlimited in Camano Island, Washington, under the leadership of Lynda Buehring, was honored to have her as one of the guest speakers at the event. They have been strong supporters of Make It Worthy since their initial encounter, and both organizations are looking forward to collaborating for years to come.
Educational therapist and program director Andrew Barling provided valuable insights into educational therapy, earning accolades from attendees for introducing a novel concept. The event also saw the presence of families and friends from various locations, including Spokane, Washington, Suffolk, Virginia, Dallas, and Lewisville, Texas, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.Â
Notably, the event featured cultural elements, including traditional Gambian/African cuisine and a captivating performance by renowned Gambian artist Pa Bobo Jobarteh, who showcased his mastery of the traditional Gambian instrument "Kora." The event was hosted at the Ronald United Methodist Church in Shoreline, Washington, with Pastor Kate Kilroy and Erin Lovejoy-Guron playing a pivotal role in its success.Â
 Additionally, Make It Worthy, the driving force behind the event, extended an invitation to the general public to join and support their initiatives in Washington State. Emphasizing the organization's commitment to effecting positive change in the lives of children, youth, and families in the community, the event underscored the importance of collective action and social equity.
